Drafting and the French Block
This thread is for those who wish to have a way to make their own patterns or for those who were interested at the costuming lecture by all this talk about the "French Block." As some of you may know, I just got all the stuff I need to make my corset. Included in this was a book called Waisted Efforts. What it mainly is about is the creation of patterns of corsets based on research and illustrations from that period. It uses to French Block to acheive this which is varried based on the chosen corset.
So, unless you want to make a corset, this would seem to have little interest for you, right? But corsets require very detailed mesurements, they must be precise and require no later tailoring/fitting on the model, so you need perfect paatterns which means that there are like twenty pages on making th perfect base French Block and then many more pages about how this can be altered.
So if you want to look at a book which goes into great detail about free-drafting then just ask. In terms of the history it explains of course, it is also very interesting as well. But if you just want me to paraphrase the stuff about making a French Block and a custom fitted dressmaker's model I can do that too.

Re: Drafting and the French Block
it's not really thick (lots of pictures through) but it's really wide. It's like smaller than most novels but like twice the thickness of LoGW
Re: Drafting and the French Block
Ohh cooly.
I think I get what you mean then.
Have lots of pictures?
I might wanna' look at it when you're done with it but I'm guessing you'll be referring back to it a lot.
I doubt there's anything in it that speicifically would apply to me or that I would know how to use but just for curiosity, you know?
